Slept until 11 o'clock. Did not have to teach my class for I told Mr. Shick I was going to quit. Read, dressed up, dinner. Walked down to lake. About 6:30 Hovelman came back from ride and told me to take the bus - so we 3 rode to Minnehaha - to Snelling across river on River dr. to Lake st. and then home at 9 P.M.

Made 2 whals to wheel my canoe on, saved cesspoole boards, fixed 1 window in garage on hinges. Stew came over and we wheeled canoe to creek and paddled up to Penn with long pole and short paddle - down and home, read and to bed.
Couple days ago Bryan quit. Then Wilson sent our answer to Germany's note.
Author note: You may know William Jennings Bryan's name from the 1925 Scope's trial to block the teaching of evolution in schools. Here he is being referred to 10 years earlier as he was objecting to the strong position taken by Wilson in this second Lusitania note, and believing it could be taken as a precursor to a war declaration, Secretary of State William Jennings Bryan tendered his resignation on June 9, 1915, rather than sign it...Bryan’s resignation marked a significant turning point, as the Lusitania crisis had convinced his successor, Robert Lansing, that the U.S. could not remain neutral forever, and would indeed eventually have to enter the war against Germany.
