June 19 - 21, 1915

Mary Pickford, whose films Grandpa has mentioned a few times, was a huge star and very influential in the film industry. She was a founding member of United Artists (1919) and The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (1927).

Sat. June 19, 1915

Dull all day. Sun a little around 6:30 P.M.

Up at quarter to five and Pa and I started to dig a cesspool as an auxiliary to the other. I worked until about 11:30, shoveling and wheeling sand to backyard. Then worked from 3:00 to 8:00. Pa helped in aft. and eve. We got it down about 10 or 11 feet. Read and to bed 10 P.M.

People say I an thin now, but I look better now than when school let out and always feel good. Weight about 120 Height 5' 71/2"

Some say that so much powder smoke from the war causes all this dull weather. Guess that's right.

Sun. June 20, 1915

Cool and partly sunny

Up at 9:15. Mother not well. Breakfast at 10:30. Read and went to bed

Mon. June 21, 1915

Warmer and sunny except little rain at 7 P.M.

Up at 5 and finished main part of cesspool by 9:30. Down about 12 ft.

Mowed lawn. To town in aft and saw Mary Pickford in "The Dawn Of Tomorrow." Home, read and to bed. Cold in eve still wearing my winter sweater occasionally.
