This film was a huge success though extremely controversial for it's racial depictions.
It is widely acknowledge, then and now, to have inspired the rebirth of the KKK.

July 25 - 26, 1915

Sun. July 25, 1915

Fine sunny A.M.

Big white-caps waves - very pretty. Took pictures, watched them play on deck, "etc".. Towards new I got a little sick. Threw up a little ( Threw up a couple of times after the first time, yesterday) and went to cabin and slept again till we were near Frisco. The boat sure did roll some in the A.M. sometimes so much that you could hardly stand on deck (like this) [drawing of boat keeled over]. Yesterday after leaving Flavail we passed a boat and it sure did roll - 1st I have ever seen tossed upon the ocean blue.
