Mar. 8 - 10, 1916

 Wed. Mar. 8, 1916

Fine - fairly hot.

Got a card from Santa Fe that our furniture was there and Grandpa and I went but bill of lading has not come yet so we can't take it away. Grandpa and I took the brooder in the chicken house to pieces and then I cleaned it all up and sprinkled the floor. Worked around. Read in eve 4 eggs.

Thurs. Mar. 9, 1916

I believe this is the same piano that was delivered in 1916. This photo from the 1970's shows my grandfather's daughter Margaret playing in his house in Santa Monica. The same piano, now over a 100 years in our family and having nearly ever member learning to play on it, is currently in my house.

Fine and Hot

Fixed auto so I could haul a trailer and at 9 A.M. Pa and I drove down to bank and got bill of lading - then got a man to bring our piano out - then got a good large 4-wheeled trailer at the garage and  hauled all the stuff in to big loads before noon. Took trailer back - only cost 50 cents. In afternoon we unpacked things. We got everything except Pa's office stuff and we are going to check it all over in the A.M. and see if a box is missing. Put mirrors on dressers and read in eve. Backyard covered in boxes, nuff lumber to build a house. 5 eggs

Fri. Mar. 10, 1916

Fine and Hot

Arranging things all A.M. Got things all fixed up in parlor and dining room. Looks fine. Grandpa painted his bedroom floor over grey and then he is going to get a bedroom set for himself. In afternoon I made a good work bench and Grandpa took crates apart and nails out of boards. The Santa Fe's weight on our goods was about 3400# and Boyd's and Bekins said the weight was about 4200#. Pa is going up to L.A. Saturday and is going to see the freight agent there to get his statement about weighing goods and then see what B+B will do about it. Read in eve. 6 eggs
