A train platform in 1915 |
Fine, warm, ideal
Up after a fine sleep at 5 A.M. Finished packing. Bid goodbye to neighbors. Downtown and arranged for our tickets. We are going to take the boat from Portland to Frisco, as we intended and then if we want to we are going down to the Springs from Frisco and back and then go on with our ticket, by boat to Los Angeles. I bought a case for my tennis racquet etc,
Took the train about 12 O'clock said goodbye to Pa and were off. Nice car. Ate dinner and supper from our own lunch. To bed about 10 P.M.

Author Note: I believe the Springs Grandpa mentions is the Spa in San Luis Obispo that a Griggs family (granpa's mother's side) member owned.

Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada around the time Grandpa went through |
Fine, warm and clear all day
Up about 7. We were at Portal. Are past Moose Jaw now. Getting hotter. Bought 1 loaf of bread and 6 bananas at Moose Jaw - have not been in the diner yet. Played High, Low, Jack etc with a young fellow all A.M. Had a can of bean, bread, cake, etc. for lunch. Monkeyed around and talked with my friend (the young fellow). Had supper in the diner. After supper he and I asked a couple of Canadian girls to play 500 with us. My partner and I beat. When we got to Medicine Hat, about 21:30 O'clock, we 4 got off, got sodas and walked around. To bed about 22:30.
